Colleen & Roger made us feel like family & very special guests. Gorgeous
spot, beautifully set in their deer farm. Their dog Max welcomed us. And
breakfast - WOW!! No cheapie bowl of cereal here, a hug, full fresh
breakfast - eggs, bacon, fruit!!!

We have been particularly impressed with Green Gables. This was our
first visit there and have already recommended them to friends of ours
travelling at the moment. We rang the night before and requested dinner
for the following evening. Before dinner drinks were offered in the
sitting room and we were astounded when we went to the table to find an
absolutely beautiful setting with good silver and glassware. Not only
the first impression of friendliness and hospitality but the generosity
of the time spent with us was abundant. Food was top class and wine
flowed freely. We had a lovely time there, fed the deer, talked about
art and travel, family and so forth. By the time we left we had bosom
friends.

My husband and I stayed here for just one night in December 2003, en
route from Kaikoura to Queenstown. It is a perfect stopping off place
for tourers, being restful, cosy and immaculately clean. Feeding the
deer (and sheep and dog) with biscuits was entertaining, and Colleen and
Roger provide wonderful conversation. Colleen is also a brilliant cook,
and not phased by having to provide for a vegetarian.
Highly recommended.
